About the Course

Through a series of engaging metaphors and stories, prospective and current EFL/ESL teachers will identify, summarize, and evaluate 7 basic language learning paradigms. Learners will be presented information on such foundational principles as motivation, risk taking, two different modes of learning, and balancing the teacher profession. Learners are also given an understanding of basic techniques founded on those principles, such as teacher talk, looking “ridiculous” in order to lower the affective filter, and networking. With these foundational principles in mind, ESL/EFL teachers will scrutinize common assumptions about language learning by comparing how they stack up to research-based core principles....

This course was amazing! I learned a lot. Dr. Shane Dixon's lectures were amazing. His explanations through metaphors and real-life examples were on point. I highly recommend this course to any teacher who wants to improve their teaching skills.

While a bit easy (I mean it's an intro and material is peer-reviewed, not graded by professors), it is very informative and captivating. A lot of fun to interact with others and be introduced in an easy way to quite serious and complex material.

As an audio and visual learner, this course is very effective for me because they have videos aside from the reading materials and quizzes. The teaching strategies ASU coaches have taught me are very practical. I am excited to use it very soon.

This course is necessary for any English teacher. It is distinguished because it depends mainly on videos in presenting materials. The language of the pesenters is clear and is convenient for learners with competence of English equals B1 or B2.

Great course content, professors and videos. The tests were also very objective and I liked the fact that there were many of them, as online students we do need lots of feedback and the tests provided that.

Thanks, I really enjoyed the course.

Excellent course that is well written. Engaging projects but they are graded by "peers." If a peer lacks the ability to find your project because they skim over the URL, it will cause you to fail. Just put the URL in a document and upload it.

I learned so much in a short period of time, but never felt rushed or overwhelmed. Each week had just the right amount of information. I had to work ahead for the last few weeks because of being away for a week in college, but it was doable!

This course is very informative and knowledge. I encourage not just the one who wants to teach English language but also some fellow educators to listen and learn from the discussion. Because it helps a lot to become an effective educator.
