About the Course

Do you realize that the only functionality of a web application that the user directly interacts with is through the web page? Implement it poorly and, to the user, the server-side becomes irrelevant! Today’s user expects a lot out of the web page: it has to load fast, expose the desired service, and be comfortable to view on all devices: from a desktop computers to tablets and mobile phones. In this course, we will learn the basic tools that every web page coder needs to know. We will start from the ground up by learning how to implement modern web pages with HTML and CSS. We will then advance to learning how to code our pages such that its components rearrange and resize themselves automatically based on the size of the user’s screen. You’ll be able to code up a web page that will be just as useful on a mobile phone as on a desktop computer. No “pinch and zoom” required! Last but certainly not least, we will get a thorough introduction to the most ubiquitous, popular, and incredibly powerful language of the web: Javascript. Using Javascript, you will be able to build a fully functional web application that utilizes Ajax to expose server-side functionality and data to the end user....

Completely outdated! The instructor tells you to download several programs but they are so old and I was completely lost. He doesn't even tell you what the software is before leading you to several outdated versions of them (Git, Sublime, Github, Browser Sync, NodeJs. I'm a total newbie what the heck is this software used for).

These instructional videos are many years old. I was so lost by having zero clue which version I needed to download. Some software they tell you to download wasn't even there.

I then went to the forums in search for answers and they there were several other people asking the same questions I had, but I was only to be more disappointed to see that these questions were asked several years ago with answers that weren't useful because they were also giving outdated information.

Very disappointed and will most likely drop the course all together to search for an updated course.

This course is incredibly outdated. The instructor uses programs that are older versions that no longer configure in a way that you can duplicate the environment that he uses. In this course he is using Sublime text 3, when sublime text 4 is already out and the current use of github no longer has the automatic webpage builder feature, it uses Jykll to create pages and it does this using ruby. So you have to download a bunch of other programs that you dont understand at this level and youre doing a bunch of things on your computer you really dont understand fully... The instructor also explains things in a way that assumes we have knowledge of coding and github etc. I will however read the books he suggested but in a nutshell this course hasnt been updated since 2019 and is hard for a true novice to understand.

Spent money for the course, which was a great price for learn and getting a certification. Unfortunately the course is outdated (6years behind) so I am stuck and not able to proceed due to the outdated setup information. I tried to follow the setup instructions but I couldn't get the correct information to even download what I needed to start my assignment. They tell you that it is outdated information after you have already paid and then tell you to go to the FAQ page, which I did. Of course the information wasn't even there for the updated setup process. I tried the forum and thankfully someone else was having the same trouble as me so I was able to find an answer but quickly became stuck again. This time no one had posted the same issue so now I'm stuck waiting and probably will be late on my assignment.

I don't understand how this course is still getting so many 5 star reviews. The course is created in 2015 and has so many outdated things in 2024. In CSS layout is made by a very old version of bootstrap and old CSS technologies like float. There is nothing about modern CSS technologies like flexbox or grid. Module 4 and 5 is a total mass. Especially ajax part is taught really fast on pre-written code and impossible to understand without watching other videos on youtube. I don't think you can learn JavaScript with the outdated and poorly taught lessons in this course. I got the course with financial aid. I just finished it for not to create a bad reference for my future financial aid applications.

The information for this course is very outdated. For example, the method for turning in assignments is github, the video for setting up github is over 7 years old and the bandaid solution to remedy the fact that none of the important info in the lecture video is no longer relevant is to direct students to the courses FAQ. The problem with that is that the FAQ is incomplete and unfocused.

Also the professor does not actually teach anything regarding HTML, CSS or Javascript. He shows what is possible and throws out alot of terms without explaining them in depth. Also, he talks too fast and goes off on small tangents constantly.

Very frustrated with this course. All the information is outdated and it is preventing me form completing the assignments. Starting with content from week 1, it's so out of date that even after hours of extra research I still can't figure out what I am supposed to do. This has caused a domino effect making it hard to follow along and complete any of the work from there after. I was told it would be updated soon, but now 6 months later there is still no update. Waste of time and money.

While the class is offered for free, its outdated materials and lack of clarity posed significant challenges. Despite diligently following the provided resources, including the FQA page and discussions, the information remained confusing and inadequate. Regrettably, this led to frequent moments of frustration and confusion. Improved updates and more responsive support channels would greatly enhance the learning experience.

The course is bad and the instructor doesn't explain the topics clearly. I relied on Youtube the whole course and it is 100% better than Coursera. I don't recommend this course to anyone or You can take it if you want to but you will need to rely on other sources like YouTube. Youtube is a true Goldmine. University courses on Coursera are not that good. That's my opinion.

This Course would be five stars if it weren't extremely outdated, at this point the information conveyed is 7 years old - which for software development, is a lifetime. The module I currently find myself in is impassable without help from external sources, as most of the information is now no longer relevant.

The course needs updated urgently!

This class is 7 years old and out of date in many ways. There is an FAQ that is mentioned regularly as a reference but I cannot find it. Further, the web tools used in this class have had many in depth improvements and releases in the last 7 years. I think it's time to record some new videos or archive this class.
