John is a clinical assistant professor in the graduate school at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign, one of the world’s top rated accounting programs. John also serves as director technical accounting at Reynolds Services, Inc. on a part-time basis. John recently retired from the Accounting Principles Consultation Group in the national office of Grant Thornton LLP located in Chicago where he worked with clients on complex real estate and lease accounting issues, employer accounting for postretirement benefits, and business combinations. While at Grant Thornton, John participated in the FASB codification project and contributed regularly to comment letters on proposed standards. John also spent several years working in Europe, Asia and Africa for a variety of firms on accounting and auditing policy matters, securities market and banking regulation, and updating university curricula for IFRS. John also was previously a project manager at the FASB. In addition to his BS and MAS from Northern Illinois University, John has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin Madison. John is a CPA (Illinois) and a CMA. John served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois CPA Society, and is past chair and current member of the Professional Standards Committee. John also served for three years on the Pre-certification Education Executive Committee of the AICPA and is active in the American Accounting Association, participating in the International Accounting and Financial Accounting and Reporting Sections. John has taught courses in financial, managerial, and international accounting and accounting theory.
