[MUSIC] Hi, everyone. I'm Professor Duck-Joo Lee. Let's start our class for the fifth week. Thinking about the first week makes me feel how time flies We all live in the same time. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days in a year is fair for anyone. As time is fair to everyone, we all do something for ourselves, for the family, for the society or for the world in our time. And today is one of those days as well. Maybe now is the good time to think about the one truth. Even though we are all spending the same time, the difference would be whether you take Sometime to look back on yourself or not. Those who take time to look back on themselves have the potential to improve themselves from yesterday and able to take a step forward both accurately and quickly for the life you want. At our last class, I told you to introduce the method to look back on yourselves in your daily lives. Moreover, I will tell you about those people who are actually practicing it in their lives and we will listen to their personal experience on that topic. What a relief! Right? We don't need to shut ourselves up from the world and go into mountain in order to meditate. Practical and helpful habits as everything else does should be easy, and clear, and shouldn't be a burden in everyday routines. Self-reflective meditation is exactly that But there is one important factor. It your perseverance that shows the strong will and effort. Especially since this is a course that doesn't require exams or assignments. Well, we start with practicing the meditation to encourage our motivation. You remember those steps, right? First, I die and spirit goes into the universe. Those steps are important in a way that it helps us to look back on our lives more objectively. Now close your eyes. Time goes by really fast. 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, 100 years and 200 years have passed. I am long dead. As I became a spirit, I'm leaving the Earth and go into the space. Another 100 years went by in the universe. The Earth looks like size of a bean. Look back on my lives in the Earth. Today we will focus on recalling what we gave up. Something that we decided and never finished at the end. All those memories are happened in that tiny Earth 200 years ago. Keep your eyes closed and focus on your recalling. Did you keep your plans for studying in your school days? What about your vacation plan? Recall those promises you made with your parents and a friend. Remember how you felt when making promises with other people and to yourselves you might have worried for disappointing other people or disappointed by yourself when your determination crumbled. Recall your New Year's resolutions as well. Raising your GPA, quitting game. quitting, drinking, smoking or learning a new skill and etc. Recall those moments, your lacked of will power. Remember when you could not achieve your goals. Which of your personality did you think was the cause of that ending? What were the reasons that fizzled out your determination? What was the problem that followed you ever since? Try to recall what weakened your determination constantly. Let's stop here. This was a short cession, but I think you can check your willingness from it. I'm sure there are many times you accomplished what you aimed for and went forward as you determined. The reason we looked back on ourselves are for knowing ourselves accurately. You can know the gap between your current state and what you desire to be. Now, we can put self-reflective meditation into practice. This shouldn’t be hard. First, you decide how much time you will have for the self-reflective meditation a day. Maybe 30-minute right after you wake up, 30-minute in lunch break right before the bed time or during the commuting time on the bus or subway. You can do self-reflection in the middle of your study or work. You can look back what you have done today or you can do with specific topics. For example, if you quarreled with your friends, you can look back about the reason why you did. Important thing is that no matter how much time you spend, you must do the first two steps each time you die and become a spirit and go to the universe for maintaining objective mind. You don't have to isolate yourself by going into the deep mountain what you need it to cut from the world from your mind. When you do steadily you will clearly know that you are living in a false picture world which was taken self-centeredly by yourself. Needless to say, you can also conform that you should throw it away. We are continuously exercising looking back on ourselves in order to realize why we should empty and clear our mind. As everything else does, the reason and the purpose of this meditation should be clear when we started. And when it does, we can show our perseverance and the willingness for it, and that lead to a clear core. I don't like to give to you homework. I want to each and everyone of you to make a self-reflective diary. This diary is for writing down what aspect of yourself you looked back for how long and what did you found out about yourself, as a result. Also, during the process if any questions pop up in your head, take a note and ask me. Of course, I am not going to check the assignment. I will see you on our next class. Thank you.
