Be it a career pathway, a job, or the adoption of digital manufacturing for
your business, a marketing tool can help you succeed.
This forward piece includes information such as project summary,
knowledge, skills and credentials.
It also includes targets, including industries and geographical markets.
These one page documents will be used as conversation starters with mentors.
Family and co-workers to begin your search for a job, to seek a promotion, or
to transition your company to digital manufacturing and design technology.
Each document will also include companies you wish to pursue for a job.
If you're looking to make leadership decisions, you may want to list
companies who have embraced DMD with whom you want to discuss lessons learned.
We have several resources to consider when researching workforce goals and
jobs throughout the enterprise.
>> So the future for this sort of work and
if you're in school, what you might focus on.
This is kind of hard to predict because the conundrum is you're in
school learning a set of skills toward a career that you think you want,
but that career in 10 or 20 years time will change.
So the things that I learned in school I programmed on punch cards.
And now we're using digital iPhones and
Androids and we're using pc and workstations and CAD software.
None of that existed when I was in school.
So what you want to learn in school is you want to learn the fundamental theories
behind how you do things or why you do certain things.
And if you can learn those theories then you can then apply and pivot on those
theories to apply them toward modern technologies as things become easier.
So, they have a digital network in cheaper storage, faster bandwidths and
more sophisticated software and more connected software packages.
You can begin to stitch all that together and
create strategic ways of organizing, so that you can execute your functions or
do the work that you really like to do in a round that you enjoy and
still be productive in a bigger setting of a larger team.
I'm trying to work in a firm that makes a product or in university that is trying
to educate my people whatever it is that you want to pursue in your career.
>> Previously, we talked about digital manufacturing design institute,
or DMDIs and Manpowers release of the partners and
connection, digital manufacturing and design, job roles taxonomy.
It identifies roles, existing and
transforming, within the digital enterprise.
We also discuss US national O-Net"Codes, related to job titles and descriptions.
They provided demographics information, future projections, and
education levels related to job categories and titles.
They also have symbols that identify careers with a bright outlook.
You may also want to localize your research to include the department
of labor at at a state level and more, your local level.
Related to the labor departments, is the US Bureau of Labor Statistics,
which provides economics Including statistics and
trends at a federal, state and local level.
Consider researching professional certification,
education and training opportunities.
These can include science, technology, engineering and
math, education for global leadership, or STEM.
Siemens, the international council on systems engineering or INCOSE.
Ivy Tech Community College, Successful Career Path,
and Project Lead The Way to name a few.

This is your opportunity to make an impact on the future of DMD.
>> So wait, you can learn more about model-based definition,
model-based system engineering, the digital thread, systems engineering.
There are many, and I won't be able to tell you all of them,
because I don't know all of them.
But, there are a number of engineering societies that are appropriate to
your discipline, whether you're a civil engineer, or mechanical engineer, or
chemical engineer, or quality engineer.
They all have professional societies.
Both professional societies have arms that talk about
how to do different things more efficiently.
What are new ways of doing those things,
then there are a lot of software packages in the commercial world that
begin to address some of the problems that they might have.
And there are other sort of less discipline-related societies
around systems engineering.
There’s one called that is quite good from what I understand,
although I've not been to a conference.
But there are many other societies.
There are also other for-profit organizations that do
strategic planning around this space, so there are certain
consulting companies that you can find that do these things.
And also those large software suppliers run their own conferences, so
those are other good sources of information to find out how to do model
based definition and who's doing these things and What societies or
what sources of information there are.
There are also a lot of good publications.
You can just search on the web for publications for model based definition or
product life cycle management or
model based systems engineering and the nature of search engines.
You’ll generally get the better references first.
So those are all good ways to find out how to do things without getting into
specific brands and software packages in China, you're really not able to do.
