It's a good question, and I firmly believe that everybody would be fantastic at
work if they could do work that they loved and that they were good at.
We don't all have that opportunity due to different circumstances.
I happen to be somebody who's fairly lucky.
I really do enjoy the work that I do.
And my hope is, through this course many of you will be able to build your brand,
and present yourself in such a way that gains you a lot of opportunities.
And I believe that the mission statement is a critical part of your infrastructure.
So, I want you to think about, if you'll bring back into your mind your three
little words that you came up with that describe your brand.
And remember, we talked about how you don't necessarily
need to share those three words with anybody else.
They can be like your quiet, abiding principles that only you know about.
Mine were honesty, integrity and creativity.
And I'm gonna also share my mission statement with you.
The mission statement should not be more than three sentences.
It should be something that you can memorize, that you can share with people.
Again, it's up to you.
If you are planning to create a blog or
some other sort of website to promote your brand, your business.
It's not a bad idea to have your mission statement or
some statement of purpose on your website.
So I always like to say, I'm letting people know exactly what they're getting
into right from the beginning, so there's no mistake there.
But again, if you choose to keep that to yourself,
as long as you're using it again as your set of filters.
Because knowing what kind of work you don't want to do is just as important as
knowing what kind of work you do want to do.
So keep that in mind.
So, I want to bring up my mission statement,
bear with me while I bring it up.
And I want to share it with you.
My mission statement.
My abiding purpose is to help all those whom it is in within my power to help.
I will use the gifts endowed to me, my heart, my brain,
and my humor, in service to others.
In a spirit of compassion and
with the hope of more deeply understanding those with whom I share this world.
So that's my mission statement.
It may be a little cheesy on, overall, but I'm kind of a cheesy person.
But just because it's cheesy doesn't mean it's sincere.
That's honestly how I want to order my life.
And it was a very helpful exercise to me to write that mission statement because
when you have to get something down in no more than three sentences it doesn't
leave you with a lot of wiggle room.
You have to cut straight to the chase and
it really does help you figure out what your core values are.
And what you really wanna be doing in this world.
And hopefully figuring out your three words and
then writing your mission statement again
all of this is just the idea of building that infrastructure of your brand.
So that when you go out to promote yourself and your brand,
you can do it very clearly because you've done all this work.
You know who you are, you know what your values are, and
you'll be able to easily communicate those.
So let me know in the forums.
One of your assignments is to write your mission statement, so write that,
get that posted, and share your stories.
Always interested in hearing from you.
I hope this helped.
