The key deliverable from this particular course is the leadership development plan that you will write for yourself. With that in mind let's take a look at a few of the components of this plan that you will have to address as you do the writing assignment. First I want you to set what is your vision. What is it that you see as success for you, as you implement your leadership development plan? This could be either the vision, or your statement of purpose. What is it that you do, and why do you do it? What are your aspirations for your career? And in this regard for both the vision and your aspirations, I would like for you to take a five to ten year outlook on what you want to accomplish. We than prepare an action plan. And that action plan consists of a set of goals. Specifically, you're going to select a minimum of four competencies on which you wish to work. These are going to be competencies that are important, urgent, or for which there is a significant gap that needs to be closed. They also need to ones that you are willing to devote the personal energy and commitment to conduct the action plan and see it through to completion. You'll develop a list of actionable items that you can do to make improvements in those leadership skills. And we just referred to some of those in the previous lesson. From those then you'll develop a list of SMART goals. We will address the development of SMART goals very specifically in the next module. However, what I want you to keep in mind is that that set of SMART goals will address some specific behaviors that you'll need to improve or want to improve. It'll express a timeframe in which you wish to do it. It'll have some mechanism for accountability. Do you have to report out or do you have to track it in some way that's very visible. And lastly, there should be some measure of success. How do you know when you've completed the goal successfully? I think a significant part of that is that you ought to include a reward for yourself for accomplishing your goals. All this then are the things that you'll need to consider as you develop your written leadership development plan.
