My name's Cheyenne and I'm a freshman here at Buffalo State College.
And, a, about a year ago,
a couple summers ago, I went to a boarding school called Pu, in Putney, Vermont.
And that school was just all about creativity and
it was one of the best schools I've ever, like,
attended because all of the students were di, so diverse, different.
There were students who loved to dance, loved to write, ceramics,
a bunch of different things.
And there were, there was a day when I wanted a sketch book and
I didn't know how to, like, where to get a sketch book.
So, I went into the bookstore, but it was way to expensive, so ding, ding, ding.
LIke, my creative, like,
mindset just taked over and I took a bunch of papers and put this together.
So, it's really thick right now because like everyday,
because it's a creative journal.
Like, I enter almost every day or almost every week.
So, I just write a bunch of stuff on it, put images on it, anything that happens
throughout the day, like movie tickets, if I've traveled somewhere.
And it's just a way and an outlet for me to reflect on my life and the things
that I do every single day that's creative because every single day is creative.
Every step that I take is a creative step.
It's, and me personally I don't really like structure, and
like constant limitation.
It's like rigid, this, this how you do it.
I just like to go with the flow and just be creative in everything that I do,
so this journal really means something to me.
And it's starting to become full so I might just have to make another one and
like stick stuff on top of each other.
But anyone who looks at this journal can just say this is Cheyenne.
Like just talk this, my whole life is just like a part of this journal.
So in my creative studies class right now, 205 with Dr.
Joe Yudis, we were tasked with creating an invention.
And had to be like fresh from our mind.
Something that we did, 20 things that sort of like annoy us, and
people could not be on, on it because you can’t change people.
And you just don’t say that, oh I want to create this or change this person,
that's just not logical or realistic.
So we had to create these things and I was always, always frustrated with
having to look for a highlighter, a pen, or pencil, and not being able to fine one.
Or like from running late to class and it's like leave my room and
I forgot like one of my utensils.
So I created the writer's tool where it's like a pen, a pencil, and
a highlighter, three of the most important things that a college student needs, or
any student needs.
And someone who is a writer, so you'll just write with the pen, rotate pencil,
and then highlighter, but I had to improvise, and you know
the process for main piece, process is one of them, where it's like scamper,
had to eliminate, and just let the idea sit, which is like incubation and
stuff like that, so I just had to use tape for a while.
Because I didn't have like, you know, a sort of, a big space, or
container to put all of them in.
And that's where like, the creativity aspect comes in,
because no matter what you do, if it's something from you it's creative.
Like, it comes from you, and your heart and your mind, and
the way that you put it together, that's the creative aspect of it.
And it's just a prototype, so this is my writer's tool.
Well, I write poetry almost every day, or I can,
I write poetry in my head, just on the train.
And which is like a funny thing because if I don't have my book, I would like have
a whole entire poem written down in my head and then I will forget it.
So whenever I am performing, like doing spoken word,
I feel like extremely alive because I feel as though people are listening to me and
I have learned how to project my voice instead of yelling.
And when I project my voice, I'm, I feel like I'm reaching to a different crowd,
and it's just an, an experience that I feel like everyone should be able to have,
where it's like, especially if you love public speaking.
If public speaking's not for you, then you wouldn't feel alive in the act.
Like, you might feel all right, alive in just the writing process, but
I feel alive in both the writing process, but then that all comes together.
When I'm like, shouting out to the world and just putting my voice and
expressions to my poems.
Some of my creative attributes are characteristics.
Most people would not think that they're creative, but I would say patience
is extremely creative because to be creative you have to have patience.
And that's one of the characteristics that have been like developing or
skills that I've been developing like for a number of years and so, being patient
with your creativity and being patient with yourself allows you time to come
up with something that's really, really beautiful and in the end you love it.
