[SOUND] Welcome to Establishing a Professional self through Effective Intercultural Communication. In this module, we will focus on the Principles of Effective Communication. In module one we talked about the communication process and how factors such as cultural values, context, and the level of politeness required in communication, can influence the way we communicate with our receivers. In this module, we will be talking about the principles of communication to ensure our communication is effective. And there are seven basic Principles of Communication that we will be talking about in this module. There are two parts. In part one we will be about the 7Cs, that is, the seven Communication Principles, and they are Clarity, Correctness, Completeness, Conciseness, Concreteness, Coherence and Courtesy. In the second part of this module, we will be talking about how to apply the 7Cs to present information effectively to our audience. Before you continue on with the rest of this lesson, what I would like you to do is to complete this pre-lesson task. Write down your answers. Look at the situations presented on the handout that is given to you in this module. For each situation, there are two examples, namely A and B. Example A is good, is a good message, Example B is not such a good message. Your task is to decide and write down what is wrong with example B, and what changes you will make. Please allow about 30 minutes to complete this task. Make sure you try the best that you can to identify the errors in example B, and write down how you would correct Example B messages as best as you could. This is a very effective way for you to find out what you now know before you go on with a lesson, and what you know as I go through the lecture with you. So complete this task before you listen to the rest of the lesson, because to make sure you finish all situations before you continue on with the lesson.
