So there's obviously, a lot of benefits for nurses to be online and
have that presence online where there's engaging, as we said with studies.
Or Perhaps in relation to that, your profession, engaging with patients, etc.
But there's also some challenges.
What would you say was the biggest challenge to nurses
having an online presence?
>> If you look at the evidence, if you look at the literature,
there is clear benefits to having >> Good presence or
using technology in care.
Patient, themselves, nurses are advocates, patient's advocates.
And patient have gained a lot of benefits from social media, for example.
They are better informed.
They have opportunity to- >> As we say,
be part if this decision making process through understanding and
through access to relevant, timely, accurate information.
But some of the information is not necessarily accurate.
>> Right.
So, we need as healthcare professionals,
we need to be guarded around the kind of things that are out there.
And make sure that our patients understand the risks,
some of the risks that are out there in terms of misinformation,
the harm that some information may have.
And so,
I would suggest that as a professional you need to have the knowledge and
understanding and real appreciation of the benefits and some of the risks.
>> So I would assume some of the risks would also include things like
personal safety.
And where appropriate,
that there has to be that distance kept between the patient and the nurse.
Because of professionalism.
>> Yeah. >> To manage those boundaries and
that's some of the things that we've looked at on this course around
making sure that you're happy with your own boundaries.
And is that something as well that you would encourage nurses to do is make sure
they manage those boundaries not only for themselves but for their profession?
>> Again, it's an interesting question.
Nursing is a very intimate Profession.
>> Mm-hm.
>> You are asked to care for your patient doing some very intimate activities.
>> Mm-hm. >> So when we talk about boundaries,
when we talk about therapeutic interactions, we're really thinking about
the face-to-face interaction, where in the online environment it's very different.
So professional boundaries are important, you have to remember
the boundaries in terms of your own safety, the reputation
of the profession, some of the challenges that other nurses faced and
the consequences they had and.
But I guess the message for me is for nurses to be bold, for
nurses to push the boundaries, to see if you can have this innovative,
