Today I'll talk about The Analects and Dialogues. There are different versions about the title of the book Lun Yu (The Analects), but they have have common view that the book mainly records the dialogues about their speeches and behaviors between Confucius and his disciples . in the Art and Literature of the History of Han, Ban Gu said : In classic Chinese, the word lun means compile, and yu means speech. after studying the many theories, Mr. Zhao Jibin thinks that the word lun has the implication of sorting out and compiling, and yu means the speech between two equal persons, with the meaning of debating and answering questions. Thus, Lun Yu (the Analects) is the compiled dialogues, and the book is actually a collection of dialogues. First of all, from the perspective of the comparison btween the cultural history of China and West, at the same time in the west, Socrates and Plato also had compiled dialogues handed down to the later generations and becoming the origin of western culture. So, in terms of Karl Jaspers, and the axial period of the east and west, that is, from 800 B.C. to 200 B.C. a period of about 600 years, there had been many philosophers with eternal glory and originality in both the East and the West. For example, in China appeared Confucius, Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. In India lived Sakyamuni, appeared Upanishad. In Iran appeared Zarathustra and the challenging view of universe which considered the universe as the process of strugling between two forces, good and evil. In Palestine appeared Isiah, Elijah, Jeremiah and Jewish prophet. In antiant Greece appeared Homer, Heraclitus, Plato and others. Moreover, in both the east and the west appeared the ideology transcending the real world with rational consciousness. People like Plato not only pursued for the phenomenal world but also began to probe intot the idea of the essential world. Thus, the empphenomenal world and the essential world were divided Jewish prophet also began to divide this world and the other world. Even though Confucius in China took rites and complied with benevolence using the idea of Tao to substitute the witchcraft in the traditional culture of witchcraft, using upholding Tao to substitute the god witches worshiped. Thus, the culture of witchcraft was humanized and rationized. What's more, the cultural source of both the east and the west appeared similar dialogue forms. Why are they in the form of dialogue but not monologue? We think that on the one hand it's the outcome of media's formation. Lacking papery medium made oral communication the main carrier. On the other hand, it is because in ancient time, people were eager to communicate. They did not regard human as an objectified objective of cognition, but emphasizes the interactive discussion between subjectives about life.
