Two of the most exciting questions in science are, how did life originate and is there life on other planets? In this course, astrobiology, we'll look at these questions, we'll look at how life originated on the Earth. We'll investigate how life survives in some of the most extreme environments on this planet, like the depths of the oceans or extreme volcanic environments. We'll look at how life has evolved over the history of the Earth and how we might search for life on other planets. We'll investigate some of the missions that are underway and are planned for searching for life in other planets. And how astronomers are planning to search for earth like planets orbiting distant stars. And what sort of telescopes and instruments we might need to look for signatures of life on planets orbiting distant stars. Astrobiology is a very inter disciplinary subject. And in this course, you'll look at biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics and other areas of science. And we'll look at the crossover in those areas of science. That tell us about the history of life on Earth and the possibilities for life elsewhere. At the end of this course you'll have a better idea about why we're searching for life on other planets, how important this scientific question is. And what it might tell us about ourselves and the history of life on our own planet.
