Audio's one of the most important factors in creating a true immersive experience.
Traditionally, there are two types of audio recording.
The first, monophonic audio,
is the system where all audio layers are mixed
together and delivered through a single audio channel,
such as the receiver on your smartphone.
Mono sound systems have multiple speaker setups,
but the audio has no directional cues.
Mono is a preferred mode for speech delivery,
as everyone hears the same signal.
Stereophonic audio, on the other hand,
is utilized by most stereo phones today.
Stereo Sound is typically delivered in left and right channels,
to create directional cues,
perspective, and a feeling of space.
Stereo adds depth to sound for 2D video,
because the position of the screen is fixed.
So it can be delivered to the left and right ears accordingly.
On the other hand, it tends to complicate
360 videos because it gives incorrect directional cues,
as soon as you start moving your head.
For that reason, if it's a question of mono or stereo audio,
we advocate for mono.
What it lacks in depth,
it makes up for in maintaining continuity, and therefore, immersion.
