Sobre o curso

The HEC Managing Innovation and Design Thinking Specialization will close for enrollment on August 11, 2020. If you are interested in earning a Specialization Certificate, please upgrade or apply for Financial Aid in each course of the specialization by August 11, 2020, if you have not already done so. After August 11, 2020, learners will no longer have access to courses they have not paid for. In order to earn a Specialization Certificate, you will need to complete all graded assignments, including peer reviews, by February 8, 2021. After that point, no new assignment submissions will be accepted for Certificate credit. If you are enrolled in the degree or certificate version of this course, you will not be affected and can continue your studies beyond August 11, 2020. You want to identify an opportunity or to uncover creative insights and innovative solutions. You are curious about design thinking – a creative approach that is being used more and by entrepreneurs and in new ventures as well as in established firms. You do not understand why so many innovations, apparently developed with care, are not adopted by the users. You enjoy using services that provide a user-friendly experience and are curious to know how these innovations are developed. You are concerned by the growing complexity of innovations that require more focus on the usage and the user. If one of the situations above applies to you, then this course is for you! In “Design thinking for Innovation,” you will have the opportunity to discover and experiment with a systematic approach to uncover creative insights and innovative solutions. You will learn to recognize the specific type of situations where analytical approaches are not efficient and where design thinking is more effective. The course will follow a clear and structured process and you will work through several phases to understand what design thinking is, its foundations, principles and main phases. You will also understand the diffusion of design thinking in established firms. This course is part of the HEC Paris MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. If you are admitted to the full program, your coursework will count towards your degree program...

This class is on par with the quality of training that I received when I took Design Thinking training at IDEO campus in 2018.

I have completed my content quizzes and submissions. Just because there are no other submissions to review; I am unable to get the certificate

Well done. Only nit was that many of the supplimental reading materials were behind pay walls and I couldn't access them.

This course is the worst elearning experience i ever had. The same 3 concepts repeated along the weeks , some part of videos even not translated from french and no possibility to take off some material for future purpouse.

Evaluation is made trough "peer reviewed" assignment a polite way to say "i want ot earn money expecting someone else to work for me". The ilarous think is that in a course that stress the concept on how interaction and Places are critical on DT implementation the evaluation is based on the deployment of an online self made project.

A brilliant, comprehensive, hands-on course. Very professionally prepared material, lots of additional readings, and interesting assignments. Demands more effort than some other MOOC courses I took, and was definitely worth the money. The only thing I would wish for is that some academic articles that were recommended as further reading were made available for the participants, since they are behind the paywall. I imagine that for full-time university students access is not a problem, but for working professionals, would be helpful. Otherwise, great experience.

If you want to learn about Design Thinking, this is the course you're looking for!

The teacher takes students through the different steps of the Design Thinking process and provides additional reading material each week, to further improve one's understanding of DT. The numerous interviews throughout the course offer valuable insights and real-life examples of the DT methodology applied by leading practitioners. The quizzes at the end of each chapter allow one to verify whether the main concepts have been assimilated, while the peer-graded assignments, which I found to be demanding, challenging and rewarding, allow one to put theory into practice.

If you've signed up for the Managing Innovation and Design Thinking specialization, I suggest that you took this course before Organizational Design and Management in order to capitalize on the peer-graded assignments completed in this course.

Good luck!

The course is very rich, completed, very interesting as well as practical. The methodology is very pedagogic which combines rich&deep academic theories and principles with practical exercises and case studies. The lecturer is very good who starts from the terms of the every begainning

"design", "designer", "thinking" to the practial adoption/application of DT in today's real business context. There are a lot of assignments and readings which are helpful.

I really recommend the course, if you want to really learn Design Thinking and use Design Thinking for your projects not just for getting a certificate.

On the theoretical side, I found the amount of content to be well balanced, not too detailed, not too narrow. As for the practical side, I think this is the key feature of this course, it really nudges you to "get out there" and put into practice what you've learned over a module or another. The reality is that the hard work starts after the course, finding opportunities to apply everything to your day-by-day activities. I really enjoyed the course and I think it's a great testament for HEC's way of doing things in a professional and actionable (skills-building) matter. Happy learning, everyone!

Great course! The method, process, and mindset are very clearly explained both in theory as in practice, with interviews of practitioners.

You have to apply the method to a case throughout the course: this is a great way to understand the whole process concretely.

The teacher gives a clear and comprehensive overview of the subject.

Very interesting!

Prof Jouini has structured the course very well. Her soft spoken style of teaching supplemented by lots of study material and interviews of guest lectures, virtual tour of her class, made the course really enjoyable. Not to forget, the project and peer review assignments really challenged the brains into design thinking mode. Thank you professor.

It is challenging. Not really for newbies in online education as a lot of personal commitment is required. It is amazingly complete. Lecturer is clear, concise, a lot of videos and case studies, books references. I would recommend to make it together with someone and have a problem that intrinsically motivates you. You will need to have a problem / project already identified, human-focused and that you like; as the concepts are materialised in your project through all the course. Well done, HEC Paris!

Considering is an online course and DT should be done among people, I think is well structured, organized and explained. The major problem is the rating system and the feedback received because not everyone has the same level of commitment and understanding, which leads to really poor feedback in most of the cases (at least that was my general feeling with reviews I received). Would be good that someone that knows about the topic gives at least one among the three reviews.

Packed and challenging course, made worse by

Translated badly from real world to online

Many lost opportunities for student discussion

Answers to questions are discarded

Language is confusing in many parts

Videos were good though

Excessive amount of add-on reading

Very thourough course. Examples from IDEO and companies from different industries. Course provides structure around applying design thinking tools and deepens the knowledge around each one of those. There is a number of engaging tasks for peer review where learner can explore tools one after another building upon acquired knowledge. From problem statement and how might we questions, to gaining insight into customer pain points to builgin storyboards and testing concepts through prototypes.

Recommend to anyone interested in design thinking

I wasn't new on the Design Thinking (DT) and Innovation subjects, and I must say that this course was absolutely brilliant. It does not matter if you are a beginner or if you have a bit of experience on it, this course will only add to your knowledge and skill set. All the different methodologies, processes and dynamics that take part in DT are not only well explained by Sihem, but also backed up by first-hand real-life examples. I feel more than prepared to lead DT Projects myself.

Even though it is online course, it provided a pragmatic of design thinking methodology, such as steps from inspiration, ideation and implementation, many actual examples, which points we need to be careful and so forth. With this program, I believe many of us gain good understanding and experience about Design Thinking!

I am enjoying the hands-on approach and the practical use of the knowledge. The fact that your assumptions as well as progress gets reviewed by your peers is both new as well as a wonderful knowledge check. Good work HEC!

Interesting course. Well made videos and interesting interviews with practitioners. The project was more time consuming than announced but was it worth. In the fifth week I missed one or two more practice quizzes.
