Scott Teitelbaum, MD

Bio

Scott Teitelbaum, MD, is a professor and vice chair of the UF College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, clinical chief of the department’s Addiction Medicine Division, and medical director of UF Health Florida Recovery Center. Also a board-certified pediatrician and professor of pediatrics, he led a successful pediatrics practice for 10 years.

Teitelbaum is a nationally recognized expert on alcoholism, chemical dependency, teen addictions and compulsive gambling. He evaluates and treats impaired physicians, other health professionals and many others. He is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and is a certified medical review officer, qualified to evaluate laboratory tests for workplace drug testing programs. In recognition of his leadership in addiction medicine, Teitelbaum was inducted into the Conway Hunter Society in 2010.

He is the author of Addiction: A Family Affair. The University of Florida Guide to Understanding, Prevention and Dealing with Addiction (2011, UF Department of Psychiatry) and co-author of Weed: Family Guide to Marijuana Myths and Facts (2013, UF Department of Psychiatry).

Teitelbaum has served as a consultant to the White House Office of National Drug Control, the DEA and the Executive Office of the President, assisting with a media campaign against childhood and adolescent marijuana use. He serves as an expert panelist and speaker for the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, sponsored by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. He is a consultant on drug and alcohol abuse and dependence for the New York Yankees and other sports teams and industries.

Teitelbaum earned his medical degree at Rochester University and completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. He completed postdoctoral fellowships in addiction medicine and child psychiatry at the University of Florida. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Lehigh University, and was a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts and sciences honor society and the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He lives in Gainesville, Florida.
