Pablo Benitez

Senior Economist

Bio

Pablo Benitez is a Senior Economist working with the World Bank. He is a Team Leader of the CF-Assist Program that supports climate finance readiness and carbon pricing strategies in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Prior to joining the Bank, he was Chief Economist of Marbek Resource Consultants Ltd., where he led strategic environmental economic analysis projects for government and private sector clients in Canada and internationally. Previously, he worked for the Ministry of Environment of British Columbia and contributed to the design of the first carbon tax in North America. He also worked for the International Institute for Applied System Analysis in Austria, the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation in Ecuador.

Pablo holds a PhD in Environmental Economics from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. He has an extensive list of peer-reviewed publications on climate change and environmental economics and was a lead author of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, work that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Pablo has also been a Professor of Natural Resource Economics at the University of Victoria and at Carleton University.
